Bitdefender Total Security 2016
Powerful Anti-malware Defence
Internet and system security software vendors are always working hard to keep ahead of the threats to our systems, and are adding new advanced features and tools to combat this. The problem arises when they have to be integrated into a new security package, and one that can be understood by the users of the software.
If new tools and features are not well integrated and are hard to understand and use, then the end user could possibly move to another antivirus vendor. It is really tricky to get just right.
Bitdefender Total Security 2016 could have pulled it off again with advanced security features, and an easy to understand user interface.
Downloading and installation
Downloading Bitdefender Total Security 2016 is relatively straightforward, whether you’re downloading a trial version, or you want to buy it now. Firstly Bitdefender downloads the latest Bitdefender package, then it will unpack the software onto your system.
Once this has been done you will be presented with the installation screen. Please note, if you do not want to send “anonymous Usage Reports” untick the box before you install the software. Once you have clicked on the install button, the software will download a few more files, from there it will then scan your system for any threats before it installs the software, this could take a while depending on the speed of your system and the amount of data on it.
Packed with Features
Bitdefender Total Security 2016 is the security vendors full-strength, no holds barred security suite bristling with features. The mix of antivirus, firewall, parental controls, browsing protection, anti-theft system, encryption and even a password manager all come together to make a very good security suite.
The user interface is similar to Bitdefender 2015 edition except for a few tweaks. The dashboard consists of seven one-click tiles to access a particular element, Bitdefender Central – this is your online dashboard with information regarding things like your devices and subscriptions. The other tiles are Quick Scan, Vulnerability Scan, SafePay, Startup Optimizer, OneClick Optimizer and finally Update.
There are a lot of features, and if you want to just install and forget, you can do just that, but if you like to delve deeper you can access individual modules and tweak the settings for your own privacy and protection tastes. Bitdefender has a new, and improved firewall, this is a good move as this is one area some have had niggles about in the past.
A brand new feature in Bitdefender Total Security 2016 is Ransomware Protection. This feature blocks all ransomware, even new or unknown, from encrypting and demanding ransom on your personal files. You can choose which areas you want to protect. Bitdefender's real strength comes in the protection it provides, though. The proof is provided by the likes of AV-Comparatives and AV-Test, they list Bitdefender in the top 3 of security software, and have done for a number of years.
This is a great product at a good price. The only problem we find with this is that it only covers Windows OS. Don't take our word for it - check out the latest software here.
