What is it?
Acronis Disk Director 12 is a powerful program that allows the user to better manage their drives and partitions. The software has a huge range of features for the home or business IT administrator. Features include the ability to create basic and dynamic volumes, copy or move volumes from one type to another, for example convert logical volumes to primary and vice versa, and even convert basic disks to dynamic.
As well as the above, you can do the standard formatting, labelling, initialising and deleting volumes and drives, and defrag any available drive. You can launch a disk cloning wizard from within the User Interface and import disks created on different systems.
There's also a recovery tool in place, along with a bootable media building tool and a disk editor. There are also handy logs were you can view details of individual drives and trace back any faults or problems.
When doing a task like splitting a volume, even a volume on a USB drive, drive letters are automatically allocated during the splitting process. There is also a graphical slider so you have better control of the degree of split. You can also move specified files from one of the partitions to the newly created split partition in one go through the function's built-in file browser.
Windows 8 and 8.1 is fully supported with Disk Director 12, and you can create UEFI-friendly bootable media for Linux and WinPE-based systems, plus the level of drive and device management Disk Director goes into is pretty spectacular and will no doubt come to the aid of IT administrators and home users alike.
All of the major functions in Acronis Disk Director 12 have the easy to use graphical simplicity which means that it caters for everyone whatever level of computer knowledge they may have.
Acronis Disk Director 12 is a fantastic program that has everything you will ever need in disk management. If you are only ever going to use it for something like formatting a USB stick then it is overkill, but for home users and business IT administrators it could be a time saver.
